They can. A sealed bottle stored properly is good for about 6 to 12 months; an opened one fades over 2 to 4 weeks. Weak smell, an off odour, or liquid gone yellow or cloudy all mean the bottle is done.

Never combine poppers with erectile dysfunction medication (Viagra, Cialis and similar); both drop blood pressure and together the drop can be dangerous. Skip mixing with alcohol or other vasodilators too, and talk to a doctor first if you have heart or blood-pressure conditions.

Isobutyl nitrite is what most Canadian bottles contain: smooth, consistent, and the de facto standard. Amyl nitrite is the original compound, generally stronger and longer-lasting, but harder to find on shelves.
